Bank With Confidence With Fidelity Online Protection
In today’s world of online banking, a dramatic rise in security threats is prompting financial institutions to devote significant resources towards identifying, analyzing and enhancing security processes. Constantly evolving forms of fraud attempts challenge bankers to remain alert, bolster their defenses, and keep costs down – all while meeting the growing needs of their customers.
Fidelity Bank is proud to deliver a high level of security for our Internet banking customers. We have added an additional layer of security to our login process called Fidelity Online Protection. This will further assist in keeping your information secure, protecting you from fraud and identity theft.
It works like this – Fidelity Online Protection verifies your identity in two ways. Every time you login to your account, the bank identifies you, and it lets you identify the bank using a private image and pass phrase.
Once you have completed the implementation process, specific instructions on how to log in will be sent to you.
Fidelity Bank is committed to respecting the individual privacy of consumers. We value the trust you have placed in us to maintain the security and confidentiality of your financial information.
Your security is Fidelity Bank’s top priority. Soon, you will have a new method to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft with the launch of Fidelity Online Protection, our enhanced security feature. When you log into Online Banking, Fidelity Online Protection will help confirm your identity through a two way authentication process.
Signing up for Fidelity Online Protection will take only a few minutes, and our system will guide you through it. All you have to do is pick an image that is memorable to you, write a brief personal phase and select three challenge questions. The confidential image, phrase and challenge questions work together to help:
- Protect your account. If identity thieves try to access your account from a computer that our system does not recognize, they must correctly answer one of your challenge questions. This would prevent them from getting to your information- even if they stole your log in access id and password through spy ware, a phony website or your own handwritten note.
- Confirm the website’s validity. Once you enter your log in access id and click the Submit button, you will see your secret image and phrase. If the image and phrase do not appear, you could be at a fraudulent website. This extra validation targets a deceptive tactic known as “spoofing,” and it will help ensure that you are not accessing a fake version of our website.
Be assured that online banking is more secure than traditional paper based banking. With Fidelity’s online banking, you can review your account activity regularly instead of having to wait for a monthly statement in the mail.
Fidelity Online Protection will be released on January 16, 2007. When you log into Online Banking on or after that date, simply click the link below and follow the on- screen instructions to set up your image, phrase and challenging questions. Online banking will then be even safer.
Frequently Asked Questions About Fidelity Online Protection
One of the advantages of Fidelity Online Protection is that it uses an image and a phrase, both of which you choose, to verify that you are at Fidelity Bank’s website and not a fraudulent look-alike site. Also, Fidelity Online Protection provides added safety by helping us better identify you and prevent unauthorized access to your account.
When you visit your local Fidelity Bank office, you can identify us and we can identify you. Your Fidelity Online Protection image and phrase will allow you to identify us on the Internet, where appearances can sometimes be deceiving. When you enroll in Fidelity Online Protection, you will select an image and phrase known only by you. Whenever you log into Fidelity Online Banking, we will show you this image and phrase so you know that you are accessing our actual website.
We can also identify you by checking the computer(s) you use to access our website. You probably access our website from one or two computers, such as your work and home machines. Either way, our website will remember your computer and prevent identity thieves from reaching your account (even if they have obtained or guessed your log-in ID and password). If you need to log in from a different computer, we will take additional steps to verify your identity. We do so through a series of “challenge questions” that you set up when you enroll in Fidelity Online Protection.
Most importantly, Fidelity Online Protection provides a significant increase in online banking security compared with your user ID and password authentication only. Yes. While Fidelity Bank is and always has been committed to protecting its customers personal information, this initiative is also in response to recent federal regulations requiring financial institutions to provide higher levels of security for online banking.
2. Why do I need this new security feature?
We are providing Fidelity Online Protection - an enhanced security feature- to further protect you while you access your account online. On the internet, identity thieves may attempt to steal your identity by building websites that impersonate websites you trust. We are committed to proactively protecting our customers against such attacks. This new security feature helps us do this.
3. Where do I enter my password?
The log-in process will improve to protect the privacy and security of your personal information. We still ask you for your password, but not until after we have confirmed your identity and let you know you are at the correct website.
4. How will you confirm my identity?
We will confirm your identity using two authentication factors:
· “Something you know” (your log-in ID and password)
· “Something you have” (your computer)
If we cannot confirm your identity or we do not recognize your computer, we will ask you a challenge question (the answer to which only you know). Challenge questions are selected and answered by you when you enroll in Fidelity Online Protection. If you answer the challenge question correctly, your identity will be confirmed and you can log in. You can also inform us to recognize your computer for future login.
5. How will I know that I am not at a fraudulent site?
Previously you accessed Fidelity Online Banking using your login access ID and password. Now, you will also use a unique image and phrase. Your image and phrase help you to verify that you are on our website, not a fraudulent look-alike site. Here is how the new process works:
· Enter your log-in ID and click the Submit button.
· If we recognize the computer you are using, your image and phrase will be shown to you on the next screen.
· Once you confirm your image and phrase, you will know you can safely enter your password. If you do not recognize your image and phrase, do not enter your password.
6. How easy is FIDELITY ONLINE PROTECTION to use?
Fidelity Online Protection is very easy to use. You do not need to memorize anything new- just use Fidelity’s Online Banking as usual and look for your image and phrase at login.
7. Why has the login process changed?
Login has changed to further protect the privacy and security of your personal information and growing Internet threats. The new process also complies with stricter federal regulations for online banking.
8. Can I access my account from multiple computers?
Yes, you can still access your account from any number of computers. If you log in from a new computer or a public terminal, you will just need to go through one extra step of answering a challenge question. This helps protect you by keeping unauthorized people from accessing your personal information. There is no limit on how many different computers you can use to log into your account.
9. Why am I being asked a question when I try to log in?
We ask you a challenge question when we detect that you are trying to log in from a new computer. This is to prevent unauthorized access to your account. Since only you know the answer to the question, we will know it is really you. Generally, you will be asked to answer a challenge question only when you log in for the first time from a new computer. After you answer the question, you will be asked whether we should remember this computer for future log-ins. (If you are using a public terminal, you will want to answer no.)
10. How do I register a computer for future log-ins?
If you have not created your image and phrase, you will be prompted to do so the first time you enter your log-in ID and click the Submit button (before entering your password). While enrolling in Fidelity Online Protection, you will have the opportunity to register your computer after answering your established challenge questions.
11. What keeps somebody from stealing my image and phrase?
We show you your image and phrase only if you log in from your registered computer or after you have answered a challenge question. So, it is virtually impossible for unauthorized persons to get access to your image and phrase. (As with your login access id and password, you should closely guard your selected image and phrase as well as the answers to your challenging questions.)
12. When will I establish my image and phrase?
If you have not yet established your image and phrase, you will be prompted to do so the first time you enter your user login ID and click the submit button (before entering your password).
