Fidelity Bank’s New Corporate Center and Electric City Branch
Fidelity Bank, one of the leading community banks in Northeastern Pennsylvania, is proud to move into one of Scranton’s most iconic landmarks, the former Scranton Electric Building. With deep roots in the region and a commitment to building a brighter future, Fidelity Bank has revived this architectural gem to its former glory as our new corporate headquarters. This isn’t just about preserving a building, it’s about investing in our community, honoring the City of Scranton’s legacy and creating a vibrant space that reflects the values of the best local bank in NEPA.

The Electric City Branch

History of the Electric City Building in Scranton

The building was constructed in 1896 and was originally known as the Board of Trade Building. Designed by New York architect Lansing Holden, it was considered Scranton’s first skyscraper, rising eight stories above Courthouse Square. The Beaux-Arts-style structure features a limestone exterior and distinctive double-gabled roof. A rooftop sign originally read “Watch Scranton Grow.” The sign was later changed to “Scranton – The Electric City” to celebrate the city’s pioneering role in electric transportation. Scranton is recognized for operating one of the nation’s first commercially successful electric streetcar systems in the 1880s.
The building was purchased by the Scranton Electric Company in 1926, and it became widely known as the Scranton Electric Building.
The iconic Electric City sign illuminated the skyline for decades before being turned off in the early 1970s. After a community fundraising effort, it was restored and relit on December 9, 2004. Today, the building remains one of Scranton’s most recognizable landmarks and has undergone redevelopment as the headquarters of Fidelity Bank.
The building stands at 507 Linden Street, overlooking Courthouse Square, and the glowing Electric City sign remains a symbol of Scranton’s industrial heritage and revival.
