  2. Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering
  3. New Bethany
  4. Valley Youth House

Voting is open now through August 17th. Stop into the Bethlehem branch and vote for the organization you feel most deserves the $10,000. Voting is open to the public and you can vote once per day!

Meet the Finalists:

Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation

The Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO) was established with the purpose of facilitating economic development.

The grant will be used to support two BEDCO programs: SouthSide Ambassadors and SouthSide Arts District. Funds will be used to purchase machinery to implement an efficient leaf collection program for SouthSide Ambassadors. The SouthSide Arts District funding would go directly towards offsetting the costs of its annual Chilifest event.

Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering

Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering (BES) is a faith-based partnership that provides a network of care and hospitality for the homeless in the Bethlehem community. Overnight sheltering, hot meals, and shower facilities are provided for up to 70 guests during the coldest months of the year – November to April. BES would like to provide year-round shelter, with the goal of helping guests obtain permanent housing.

The funding will be used to pay for a professional evaluation of the current shelter’s location, including the development of preliminary plans, and determining the costs for making modification to create a year-round shelter.

New Bethany

New Bethany offers services to those in the Bethlehem community who experience poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness. Services include meals, showers, laundry services, mailing address, and access to a food pantry (Choice Food Pantry). Housing assistance, job search support and tools, and case management are also provided. The Choice Food Pantry saw an 81% increase in households seeking food between April of 2022 and 2023.

Funds from the grant will be used to meet this increasing need through the purchasing of food and supporting direct services at the Choice Food Pantry.

Valley Youth House

The Valley Youth House mission is to be the catalyst for youth to achieve their desired future through genuine relationships that support families, ensure safe places, and build community connections. Over 12,000 children, youth, and their families are served annually agency-wide.  The requested funding will help underwrite the services of an established program, called The Synergy Project, for youth experiencing homelessness between the ages of 16 and 24 in Bethlehem.

The funds will be used to close the gap in funding for the current year and cover the salaries of staff and program emergency supplies.
